Here at Howard Gardner we educate the whole child, and our Special Education Department is no different. The child's needs drive us to be innovative and cutting edge with teaching strategies and curriculum. At HGCS, we practice inclusion as well as pull-out for small group sessions. Currently on staff we have: one Education Specialist, an Education Specialist Intern, and three instructional aides (IA) to support the needs of our students. We also have Occupational Therapy, Speech Language Pathology and Counseling Services.
The goal of the Special Education Department is to provide tools that enable students to achieve in the classroom, and beyond. At every turn, we celebrate learning and incorporate Howard Gardner’s Multiple Intelligences with our special education strategies. Last year, 10% of our special education population passed the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC). If you have any questions or concerns regarding your child’s educational needs, please contact Ms. Bautista. We look forward to working with you and your student.
