Bio -- Syllabus, Policies & Procedures

I am thrilled to be in my fifth year at HGCS, and particularly happy to be teaching 2nd grade  (I’ve taught Kinder, 1st and 3rd in the past!)   Teaching is truly a calling -- and I know it's what I'm called to do.  I love the children, and I thrive on celebrating their diversity and providing an academically and socially rich experience for them in a safe environment.  I love when children are intrigued, inspired, curious, empowered and connected to the world around them.  I consider it an honor to help them hone their talents and strengths, while supporting them through their challenges.

My bachelor's degree is from Northwestern University in Chicago and, after graduation, I worked as a professional singer/dancer/actor for ten years.  When I retired from performing, I opened my own computer company and ran that successfully for another ten years prior to working in luxury real estate.  All of that was exciting but not fulfilling enough, so I returned to school and received my Master’s in Education from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, in 2007.  I am now a teacher for life!

My past careers and my proud status as a world traveler inspire me to create a rich and engaging classroom connected the world around us.  An avid supporter of Howard Gardner and his Theory of Multiple Intelligences, I love that at HGCS we get to teach the whole child, and really take the time to get to know each child as an individual.  Differentiating daily in our core curriculum is crucial, but we also stimulate those 'Intelligences' through electives in robotics, theatre, dance, journalism, the arts, and more!  I look forward to many more years at this great school and am proud to work with such a hard-working, dedicated and bright staff.
